My Story
Twenty years of Nursing background and sixteen years of Business experience, allows me to bring both practical medical knowledge and a sound fiscal business direction to the Grossmont Healthcare District Board.
I started working in a hospital when I was 19 years old as a nurse’s aide, working my way through college to eventually practice as a Registered Nurse for over 20 years. My nursing career included working in Hospitals, Emergency Rooms, and Clinics. I have participated on research boards, presented at several National Nursing Conferences
and have been published in Medical publications. All of my nursing career has been in providing patient care and oversight connected to hospitals and their systems.
While I was born and raised in San Diego, I have lived in Santee most of my life where I have raised a family and now enjoy spending time with two granddaughters and a grandson. My husband is Santee City Councilman Ronn Hall and I are very active in the East San Diego County community. In addition, to being on the Grossmont Healthcare District Board this past four years, I was the 2016 Chairperson for the Santee Chamber of Commerce; and have been a Santee-Lakeside Rotarian since 2014.
With my experience, I am the most qualified candidate for the position.
My Mission & Approach
My mission as a Director on the Grossmont Healthcare District Board is to continue to serve and continue to gain the respect of the community’s trust in me. Besides partnering with Sharp Grossmont Hospital to ensure a state-of-the-art medical facility and services for our District, my work also includes anticipating and recognizing the unmet healthcare needs of the community, maintaining and improving the physical and behavioral health of all those in the district.
A Letter from Virginia
To My District,
I am honored to have been elected to the Grossmont Healthcare District Board in 2016 with almost 90,000 votes, the second highest vote count in the past ten years. I would like to thank everyone for their overwhelming support and encouragement.
I’ve decided to run for re-election in the fall of 2020. I eagerly seek your votes!
On the Grossmont Healthcare District Board, I have served as the Secretary and Vice-President during an exciting time of many accomplishments, including the completion of the Prop G improvements at Sharp Grossmont Hospital, dividing the district into 5 zones, and collaborating with the County on the Alzheimer’s Response Team Pilot Program.
While chairing the Grants and Sponsorship committee, we initiated an annual Grants Workshop to help nonprofits with the details of the Grants process. Utilizing the community healthcare assessment, we used this to better serve and focus on the top five healthcare issues of East County. In addition, we also recognized the shortage of Advanced Behavioral Health workers and of Nurse Practitioners; as a result, we created two new types of scholarships to help increase the number of practitioners in these fields.
During my time as the Library Committee Chair, we increased the days and hours that our medical library is open, increasing access to the public.
While many of you know me as a businesswoman Realtor, I have over twenty years’ experience as a Registered Nurse. The blend of my two careers has been perfect for the Grossmont Healthcare District Board.
My nursing background includes working in hospitals, emergency rooms, clinics, and research facilities. I have participated on research boards, presented at several national nursing conferences, and have been published in medical publications. All of my nursing career has been spent providing patient care and oversight connected to hospitals and their systems.
As a conservative businesswoman for the past 16 years, I have developed successful business and financial practices. With my extensive medical and business experience, I am committed to meeting the healthcare needs of the Grossmont Healthcare District, while providing accountability, long-term planning, as well as maintaining the lease agreement partnership with Sharp Grossmont Hospital.
Most of my life, I have volunteered in my community. Besides serving as the Santee Chamber of Commerce Chairperson, I also served several years as the Head Score Keeper for the Santee Pioneer Little League, various children’s ministry leadership roles in community churches, as well as, I am a Santee-Lakeside Rotarian.
My area of service, Grossmont Healthcare District 1, includes Santee, parts of El Cajon and La Mesa. Having been active in the district, I have a great perspective on the unmet health needs.
Thank you for your vote and support.
